3 Things Digital Marketers Should Be Grateful for This Thanksgiving

Gratitude is good for you. It helps you sleep better, forge stronger relationships, improve self esteem, and can even improve your physical health. So, why is it so easy for digital marketers to be pessimistic?

Digital marketing is a tough world to work in. Sometimes, it can feel like the sand is constantly shifting beneath your feet, making it harder and harder to grab a foothold. Sometimes, algorithms frustrate us or potential clients deny us. Worst of all, sometimes we pour too much of ourselves into our work, at the expense of our health and happiness.

That all being said, you’d be hard-pressed to find a digital marketer who isn’t passionate about their job. The challenge is bracing and exciting, almost like a chess game that you play against time, budget, and Google. Best yet, there’s nothing quite like seeing the excitement from a client when their time, money, and energy starts to pay off in the form of ROIs and newsletter signups.

It’s terribly easy to forget all of the incredible tools and opportunities we have at our fingertips. We get wrapped up in what has to be done next, instead of taking the time to appreciate all of the things we’ve already accomplished.

That’s why we wanted to take the time to think about the 5 things we’re grateful for this Thanksgiving. With the cornucopia of opportunity that lays before those in the field, there’s always something to get excited about.

We’re able to target our markets better than ever before.

With tools like HubSpot and MailChimp, we no longer have to send out huge marketing blasts in the hopes that something is going to stick. Instead, digital marketers have the ability to closely target and market specifically to the potential customers most likely to be interested in the product.

Now, we have more time to focus on creating brilliant and innovative marketing campaigns. Clients are receiving more interest from smaller groups of people. Our jobs are becoming more fulfilling as marketing campaigns are becoming more successful.

Everything moves at the speed of light, and that’s a good thing.

In the early years of advertising, you had no chance to respond to a problem until after the campaign had launched. Now, with public input channels and social media, we can react quickly and efficiently to snafus and successes alike.

We have the opportunity to connect one-on-one with people from the other side of the globe, instantaneously. Digital marketers can do marketing campaigns for businesses on the other side of the world, or right in their own backyard. It makes a big world seem a little bit smaller.

Every aspect of our business changes constantly.

No one could ever accuse a successful digital marketer of stagnating. Working in a field that is constantly throwing obstacles in our path teaches us to be flexible, adaptable, and agile both in and out of the office.

Digital marketers are constantly presented with opportunities to learn something new, to play with new tech, and to bring better service to our clients. While it can feel overwhelming at times, it’s really something to be grateful for. We have sharp minds and real-world skills that translate across all spheres of our lives.

This Thanksgiving, take a moment to revel in all the incredible journeys you get to participate in as a digital marketer. We have the chance to collaborate, connect, and garner insight like no other generation of marketers before us. That’s something to be infinitely grateful for.
